Did Christmas trees smell different when you were young? You know — spicy and sweet and exquisitely piney. It’s how Christmas trees were supposed to smell. Back then, most people used balsam fir trees. Not now. Well, we missed that smell. So we searched around and found a Nova Scotia tree grower who still raises balsam firs. And they’re just like we remembered: a rich, deep green with a lithe, willowy shape. And there’s that luscious smell, too. Balsam firs — start the tradition all over again.
