Monthly Themes

Each month we’ll offer a new project! Soldering, electrical circuits, and crazy concoctions are just a few of our themes. So you can return month after month for more tinkering fun!

*Some supply fees may apply.
*Activities are subject to change.

August

Engage Your Engineering Spirit
Tinker. Hack. Invent. Saturday is partnering with MDOT this month to challenge all young makers to build a better bridge!  We’ll supply the materials as you tinker to make the strongest, the longest, or even the most unusual-looking bridge that your imagination can create. The Tinker Task Force will measure, test, and photograph your creation to display on our large-screen monitor on the remaining Saturdays in August.

September

Best of The Henry Ford Summer Camps
Summer Camps at The Henry Ford are full of innovative activities, creative projects, and one-of-a-kind experiences for campers going into the second through eighth grades. Sample a few of these activities in September before we pack them away for another summer. Some projects may include supply fees and age requirements.

October

This month young tinkers will have a spook-tacular time creating their own jack-o’-lanterns. Makers ages 12 years and up can learn to solder and make a flickering light and a paper lantern to light up their October nights. An $8.00 supply fee covers a soldering kit for the flickering light, two AA batteries, an orange paper lantern and materials to create a scary face.

Makers of all ages can also have holiday fun making scary paper jack-o’-lantern luminaries using a safe battery-operated tea light to set their creations aglow, free of charge. One luminary per person, please.

October 1st is also Sensory-Friendly Day

As part of our Sensory Friendly Day, free seasonal activities, including Spooky Touch & Match and Pumpkin Sorting games, will provide fun for all ages. Sensory-friendly events will take place all day under our DC 3 airplane near the Museum Plaza.
