- Memoir, "Lenoir-type Engine Made by Ford," December 9, 1938 - Belgian-French engineer Jean Joseph Lenoir patented a non-compression internal combustion engine in 1860. During Henry Ford's legal battle over the 1895 Selden automobile patent, Ford claimed his engines were based on Lenoir's design and not subject to the Selden patent. This reminiscence from Ford employee Fred Allison describes building a Lenoir-type engine to exhibit to the New York Court of Appeals.

Henry Ford purchased the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad in 1920 and spent some $15 million improving its physical plant. Among the largest projects was the construction of a new line from Flat Rock, Michigan, to the Ford Rouge factory. The 15-mile Flat Rock Cut-Off gave the DT&I a direct route to Dearborn.

The Association of Licensed Automobile Manufacturers enforced Selden's patent, but Henry Ford waged a successful legal battle against ALAM. The court ordered tests of a working version of Selden's proposed vehicle, and of the early Ford Motor Company automobile pictured here.

It featured an underslung frame, tiller steering, and batteries placed under the seat. Fred Allison designed the motor. After some talk of forming a new company to build electric cars, the project was canceled.

- The Electrical Switchboard in the Ford Motor Company Highland Park Powerhouse, circa 1913 - Ford Motor Company opened its Highland Park plant in 1910. It was here that Ford produced most of its 15 million Model T cars, developed its moving assembly line, and instituted its Five Dollar Day. The plant's electricity was supplied by an on-site powerhouse with generators connected to nine gas-steam hybrid engines. Together, the nine engines produced 53,000 horsepower.
