In October 1917, Burroughs returned for a brief visit. Burroughs and his traveling companions stopped at Emerson's home and gravesite, Walden Pond and other familiar sites before heading back home.

Ford and Burroughs often visited each another and went on extended vacations with family and other acquaintances. Ford also gave Burroughs his first automobile -- a Model T.

Henry Ford read and admired the works of John Burroughs. In the early 1910s, Ford sought out the internationally known naturalist and writer. The two bonded over their love of birds and nature and became friends. Ford and Burroughs often visited each another and went on extended vacations with family and other acquaintances. Ford also gave Burroughs his first automobile -- a Model T.

The next year, Edison explored California with Ford and another friend, Harvey Firestone. These outings prompted Edison to propose that the group of friends go on another excursion together, which eventually led to a series of camping trips between 1916 and 1924.

Ford had helped him purchase the property in 1913. Burroughs summered here, writing and entertaining guests.
