The unit uses computers, sensors and other car safety features to help control the car though sudden turns and stops, and to help prevent rollovers. Continental Teves, Inc., manufactured this five-millionth module in 2002.

It was used to identify problems with ignition and electrical systems, vacuum pressure, engine speed (crankshaft revolutions per minute), and emissions. Racing driver Bobby Unser used this Sun motor tester and its accessories at the Unser garage in Albuquerque, New Mexico, early in his career.
