Ford Motor Company Employee Victory Garden Plot No. 1, Garden Educational Service, July 1944
- H. J. Heinz Co. Employees, London, England, 1920 - H.J. Heinz entered the manufactured food industry 1869. With a rapidly expanding line of high-quality products and a flair for marketing, the Heinz brand quickly became a household name. As the manufacturing operation grew, the company itself expanded, building branches and factories across the U.S. and internationally as well. This photograph shows the employees from Heinz's London branch in 1920.

This resulted in a world-class employee welfare program which included amenities, programs, and policies with consideration for their well-being. This employee handbook from 1920 explains each of these provisions and encourages teamwork and a strong personal work ethic from the incoming employee.

American computer engineer Stephen Wozniak co-founded Apple Computer (now Apple Inc.) with Steve Jobs in 1976. Wozniak's inventions and machines--he created the Apple 1 and Apple II computers--contributed greatly to the personal computer revolution of the 1970s and 80s. In 2008, staff from The Henry Ford interviewed Wozniak at the Computer History Museum in California as part of the Collecting Innovation Today Oral History Project.

Most workers sat in long rows of desks that filled large hallways. Ford Motor Company used an open plan to accommodate its growing staff in 1945. Henry Ford II, who assumed the presidency from his ailing grandfather that year, modernized Ford with a corporate structure modeled after General Motors.
