- 38th Annual Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb, July 1960 - Dave Friedman has captured and preserved auto racing history through his own photography and his collection of works by other photographers. This image by Jack Brady Associates was taken during the 1960 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Joyce Thompson, pictured here, became the first woman to compete in the event that year. Thompson finished 13th in an Austin-Healey she called the "Termite."

- Bobby Unser Taking Off from the Starting Line, Pikes Peak Hill Climb, July 4, 1963 - Bobby Unser's three Indianapolis 500 victories were impressive enough, but he really shined at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. He won 13 climbs over 30 years, from 1956 to 1986. During the 1963 contest, Unser raced up the twisting 12.42-mile course in 12 minutes, 30.6 seconds -- an average speed of nearly 60 miles per hour.
