- Postcard, "Public Library, Springfield, Mass.," 1943 - Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) amassed an immense fortune from railroads, oil, and steel. He devoted his later years to philanthropy. Between 1886 and 1919, Carnegie donated more than $40 million to build 1,679 new libraries in communities of all sizes across America. This Italian Renaissance Revival-style library building, funded in part by Carnegie grants, opened in 1912 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

- Hampden Park Racetrack, Springfield, Massachusetts, circa 1885 - American bicycle racing flourished in the late 19th century. Horse tracks could be converted for bicycle racing -- a shorter oval was created while still using the stretch in front of the grandstands. This photograph shows the Hampden Park race track in Springfield, Massachusetts. On the back is a drawing showing the bicycle oval in relation to the horse racing track.

- 1896 Duryea Motor Wagon Company Catalog Reprinted in 1951 - The Duryea Motor Wagon Company, run by Charles and Frank Duryea, became the first in America to produce a series of identical vehicles. This accomplishment marked the beginning of the U.S. auto industry. M.J. Duryea, son of Charles Duryea, reproduced one of the original 1896 company brochures and made it available to automobile enthusiasts.
