- Washington Press, Used at the Cranbrook Academy of Art - The Washington Press established two innovations in printing history: a lightened metal frame for easier transport, and a toggle-joint mechanism to create impressions. Over 6000 of these rugged hand presses were sold between 1835-1902; many specialist printers continue to use them today. This press was donated by George Booth, <em>Detroit News</em> publisher and founder of the Cranbrook Educational Community.

The company's history is linked with the introduction of the 1984 Macintosh computer, used to design their early bitmapped typefaces. Emigre's digital work gained notoriety -- defying visual communication standards with fractured, layered combinations of text and image. <em>Emigre</em> magazine showcased their fonts and promoted groundbreaking designers.

- Shark Cast Used by William Mitchell as Inspiration for 1963 Corvette Styling - General Motors design head Bill Mitchell caught a mako shark while vacationing in the Bahamas in 1961. Mitchell used this cast of that shark as inspiration for the 1961 Mako Shark concept Corvette. The Mako Shark was a hit with enthusiasts and car show audiences, and it previewed design elements that later appeared on the production 1963 Corvette Sting Ray.
