Henry Ford II posed with his grandparents, Henry and Clara Ford. - House on Gaukler Pointe, 1916, before the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House was Built - By the early 1910s, Henry and Clara Ford needed more privacy and security than their Detroit home could provide. They bought property at Gaukler Pointe, about 15 miles northeast of Detroit, with thoughts of moving there. Instead, Henry and Clara built their Fair Lane estate in Dearborn. Their son, Edsel Ford, bought Gaukler Pointe for his own family's home in 1925.

By the early 1910s, Henry and Clara Ford needed more privacy and security than their Detroit home could provide.
