Light and Joy in the Holiday Season

For many, December provides a time of reflection, gathering and hope for the future. In this small, limited-time exhibit, discover how Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s are celebrated through traditions of food and light.
Featured Programs and Guests
| Saturday, December 10, 2:30 p.m. | A short and “suite” modern take on The Nutcracker. Performers from Dance Theater Studio of Ann Arbor will perform three pieces from the classic Christmastime tale in the styles of musical theater, ballet, and hip hop. |
| Saturday, December 17, Noon - 4 p.m.. | In recognition of Winter Solstice, members of the Ford Amateur Astronomy Club, including a NASA Solar System Ambassador, will connect science and archaeology. Archeoastronomy studies how people of the past have looked to the skies for knowledge, and what role the sky played in their culture. |
| Sunday, December 18, Noon - 4 p.m. | Join JHSM (Jewish Historical Society of Michigan) and The Bubble Club for a family-friendly program on the history and culture of Hanukkah, told through music, stories, and arts and crafts. |
| Tuesday, December 27, Noon - 4 p.m. | Mama Jahra shares the principles of Kwanzaa through storytelling for all ages. |
| Saturday, December 31, 10:00 a.m. - Noon | Join us for our "Noon Year's Eve" party! Celebrate the end of the year with family-friendly crafts, activities, and story time. Story time begins at 11:30 and will culminate with a bubble wrap stomp at noon to bring in 2023. |
