- Basil "Jug" Menard Posing with a Modified Ford Coupe Race Car. Taunton, Massachusetts, circa 1946 - Like many other young drivers of the time, Basil "Jug" Menard fell in love with auto racing. Through the late 1940s, he competed in amateur events at tracks in his native Massachusetts. Here Menard poses proudly -- with a smile on his face and hands on his hips -- in front of his modified 1933-34 Ford race car.
