- Commode Chair, 1750-1770 - The chamber pot that originally fit under the seat of this chair is hidden by the unusually low "apron," or piece of wood below the seat front. Chairs of this type were intended to serve the needs of the elderly or infirm, yet remain fashionable.

- Side Chair, 1750-1780 - As one furniture style was being replaced by a newer one, furniture makers often mixed design elements. Most of this chair reflects the Queen Anne style. But the craftsman added ball-and-claw feet of the recently introduced Chippendale style.

- Sofa, 1840-1860 - Gothic Revival furniture with this level of sophistication is rarely seen. The crest and seat rails consist of rows of quatrefoil, or four-part leaf forms, derived from medieval stained glass windows. This large scale piece was intended to make a fashion statement in a well-appointed Victorian interior.

Constructed using uniform parts made quickly by machine and easy to assemble, Hitchcock chairs were attractive, durable, and inexpensive. They became so popular in the 1820s that they were widely imitated by competitors.
