- Whole Earth Catalog: Find Your Place in Space, July 1970 - Biologist Steward Brand founded the Whole Earth Catalog in 1968, to connect counterculture and back-to-the-land communities with innovators in the fields of technology, design, and architecture. The cover of each edition, like this from July 1970, featured images of earth taken from outer space. Brand believed showing this would change people's perceptions of their responsibility for the globe.

Whole Earth Catalog: Find Your Place in Space, July 1970

- Advertisement Promoting Commercial Flight in Ford Tri-Motor Airplanes, "Your Place...," March 1931 - While air travel was not exactly an everyday experience by March 1931, when Ford Motor Company published this advertisement, it was certainly a regular feature of American life. Ford rightfully claimed some credit for that. Its all-metal Tri-Motor airplane, built from 1926-1933, was rugged, reliable, and widely used in both passenger and freight airline service.

While air travel was not exactly an everyday experience by March 1931, when Ford Motor Company published this advertisement, it was certainly a regular feature of American life. Ford rightfully claimed some credit for that. Its all-metal Tri-Motor airplane, built from 1926-1933, was rugged, reliable, and widely used in both passenger and freight airline service.

- Advertising Poster, "Air Mail. Save Time, Speed Your Mail," 1927 - Regular air mail service in the United States started in 1918. The faster delivery came with a hefty premium. Initial air mail stamps cost 24 cents each -- eight times the charge for standard ground service. Banks and time-sensitive businesses were the earliest customers. The price gradually fell until, in 1975, domestic air service was made routine without added cost.
