- Manny's Combined Reaper and Mower, circa 1854 - John Manny developed this reaper in 1853 in Rockford, Illinois. It was the first to successfully challenge the Cyrus McCormick Company's dominance in reaper manufacture. Sued for patent infringement by McCormick in 1854, Manny won, paving the way for other manufacturers, and a broad expansion of the industry. Included in Manny's legal team was a young Illinois lawyer, Abraham Lincoln.

Manny's Combined Reaper and Mower, circa 1854

- "Triumph" Self-Raking Reaper, circa 1876 - Self-rake reapers needed only one operator instead of two required for reapers. The "Triumph," was an improved version of Seymour & Morgan's first successful self-rake reaper from 1853. A rotating reel moved the uncut grain into the cutting mechanism and deposited the cut grain on the platform. A separate rake regularly swept the platform, depositing the cut grain on the ground.

A rotating reel moved the uncut grain into the cutting mechanism and deposited the cut grain on the platform. A separate rake regularly swept the platform, depositing the cut grain on the ground.
- "New Yorker" Reaper, circa 1852 - The "New Yorker" Reaper was made between 1851 and 1853 by Seymour and Morgan, one of the earliest manufacturers of harvesting machinery, and is similar to Cyrus McCormick's "Virginia" reaper. Horse-drawn reapers like this greatly expanded the productivity of American farmers by reducing labor requirements over harvesting by hand with a sickle, while allowing the increase of land under cultivation.

"New Yorker" Reaper, circa 1852
The "New Yorker" Reaper was made between 1851 and 1853 by Seymour and Morgan, one of the earliest manufacturers of harvesting machinery, and is similar to Cyrus McCormick's "Virginia" reaper.
