Anderson (1920-1999) came to Selma, Alabama in 1954 to lead Tabernacle Baptist Church. He often preached pro-Civil Rights messages from the pulpit. In 1963, Anderson hosted a memorial service for local activist Samuel Boynton, which was the first mass meeting of the Selma voting rights struggle. Anderson continued to protest for justice in the following years.
