- 1908 Elmore Touring Car - Brothers James and Burton Becker made bicycles before moving into automobiles and forming the Elmore Manufacturing Company of Clyde, Ohio, in 1902. Elmore cars were distinguished by their two-stroke engines. These basic engines had fewer moving parts, but they relied on oil mixed with their gasoline fuel for lubrication. The simplified system caused faster engine wear and more pollution.
