- Saltsman's Columbia Eggbeater, circa 1894 - Eggbeaters whisk, whip, stir, or beat eggs, cream and other liquid ingredients. This one from the late-1800s consists of a tin tube with holes along one edge. Housewives and cooks would place the tube with the edge with the holes down into a bowl filled with eggs or cream. Using a plunger with a perforated disk eggs could be beaten or cream whipped.
