Morse developed an electromagnetic telegraph in 1832, and built an experimental version in 1835. The first practical telegraph system was built in 1844 between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Morse also developed the Morse code, a method of transmitting text across telegraph lines using a series of dots and dashes for letters.
