- Launching Party for the Steamer "Merton E. Farr," September 11, 1920 - From 1895-1924, Detroit Publishing Company was one of the world's major image publishers. Its wide-ranging stock of original photographs included scenes from around the globe. Detroit Shipbuilding Company launched the <em>Merton E. Farr</em> in 1920. Workers built the 587-foot-long freighter using surplus materials from a World War I shipbuilding program. The vessel was scrapped in 1970.
