Rodgers (1857-1919) served as pastor of Old Ship AME Zion Church when he had this photo taken in 1894. "Old Ship" was established in 1852 and is the oldest Black church in Montgomery, Alabama. It became one of the centers of the cultural and religious life of Black people in the state.
