- Mobil "Freezone" Antifreeze Can, circa 1930 - Mobil was formed by the merger of Socony and Vacuum Oil in 1931. Though primarily known for its gasoline and motor oil -- respectively branded as Mobilgas and Mobiloil -- it also produced Freezone antifreeze, which lowered the freezing point for engine coolant. The company's various brand names were shortened to Mobil in 1956, and Mobil merged with Exxon in 1999.
