- Dave MacDonald in Sears-Allstate Special Before Indianapolis 500, May 1964 - Dave MacDonald had raced sports cars since 1960, but he was an Indianapolis 500 rookie when he debuted there in 1964. He piloted a low-profile, rear-engine car that proved difficult to handle in tests. During the race, MacDonald lost control on the second lap and hit the wall. He and fellow driver Eddie Sachs were killed in the fiery crash.
