- Letter from George Alder, Director of University Fresh Air Camp, to A. A. Backus of Ford Motor Company, June 23, 1933 - The Fresh Air Camp was founded in 1921 to provide a place for underprivileged boys to run, jump, swim, hike, and play outdoors. Members of the University of Michigan Student Christian Association ran the camp with the support of generous benefactors, like Eleanor and Edsel Ford. Along with monetary donations, the Fords lent a truck to the organization in 1933.
