The Piccard-Compton Stratosphere Balloon launched in August 1933 at the Chicago World's Fair, piloted by Lt. Commander "Tex" Settle. The magnesium gondola and hydrogen balloon quickly crashed soon after launch due to an open valve. It is shown here in June, hauled by a Ford V-8 truck. Jean and Jeannette Piccard successfully relaunched it in October 1934 from Ford Airport.
- Edsel Ford at Balloon Races, Dearborn, Michigan, 1927 - Edsel Ford is seen at the 1927 Gordon Bennett Cup balloon race. Participants in that year's contest started from Ford Airport in Dearborn, Michigan. First held in 1906, the Gordon Bennett Cup is the world's oldest gas balloon race. The 1927 event was held in combination with the 1927 National Air Tour airplane competition.

- Bandbox, circa 1835 - In the early 1800s, Americans used bandboxes to store clothing, accessories, and other small items. Bandboxes were handy containers in the home or when traveling by stage, boat, or rail. Manufacturers covered these inexpensive pasteboard or wooden boxes with colorful papers. W. R. Hitchcock, a Connecticut bandbox maker, covered this bandbox with a paper depicting the 1835 hot-air balloon ascent by Richard Clayton.
