- Michigan Driver's License Issued to Helen Gore, 1919 - Helen (Gore) Doremus was born in 1898 in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Mary Gore, neighbors of Henry and Clara Ford. Helen became a dedicated educator, teaching in Detroit schools before marrying in 1926. She returned to the education field after her husband passed away in 1935. Doremus began teaching at Henry Ford's Greenfield Village schools in 1943 and retired in 1966.
