- "American Pride" Quilt by Zemma Haynes Taylor, 1932-1933 - Zemma Taylor made this quilt for a quilt contest sponsored by Sears & Roebuck as part of the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition. Later that year, Taylor sent the quilt to Henry Ford as a gift from "the wife of a country doctor who appreciates the Ford car." Many doctors chose to drive a dependable Ford automobile -- at a time when doctors still made house calls.

- Mechanical Lantern Slide, "Moonrise, The House of William Tell," 1860-1900 - Magic lanterns use a concave mirror and light source to project images on glass slides with painted or photographic scenes. Developed in the 17th century, magic lanterns predate slide projectors and motion pictures. In the hands of magicians, they became "lanterns of fright," projecting wondrous images and apparitions. Slide themes ranged widely: exotic travel, folklore, advertising, history, science, and art.
