- Painting Automobile Bodies in the Ford Motor Company Rouge Plant B Building, November 1932 - Ford Motor Company's system of mass production depended on the smooth flow of parts and materials to workers. Ford engineers designed the buildings and facilities at the company's massive Rouge plant with this in mind. The "B" Building, where vehicle assembly took place, included extensive conveyer systems to accommodate the continuous movement of parts and processes.

Ford assembled the boats at a new factory, constructed with funding from the federal government, at the mouth of the Rouge River. After the war, Ford exercised its option to buy some of the facilities. The site formed the core of Ford's massive Rouge automobile plant.

The company assembled the boats on massive flatcars that rolled through the factory. Ford launched Eagles into the river with a hydraulic steel trestle that lowered each hull into the water like a giant elevator. The process took about 40 minutes.
