Introduced in 1935 and styled by industrial designer Raymond Loewy, the GG1 was equally at home hauling slow freights or high-speed passenger trains along PRR's electrified New York-Washington mainline. The last GG1 was retired in 1983, nearly 50 years after the design's debut.
