- Clara Ford and Henry Ford at Fair Lane, Dearborn, Michigan, September 1939 - In the 1910s, many wealthy Detroit citizens abandoned the city for eastern suburbs. Henry and Clara Ford sought a different path. They selected 1300 acres of farmland in Dearborn (west of Detroit) as the site for their new home.
