Members of the University of Michigan Student Christian Association established the camp with the support of benefactors, like Eleanor and Edsel Ford. In 1928, organization leaders recognized the couple's generosity with a plan to name two new lodges--one for Edsel, the other for "Tau Beta," another of Eleanor's charities.
