- Edison Dynamo, Type Z, circa 1882 - After Thomas Edison's successful experimentation with electricity generation and transmission, he began production of equipment to meet a variety of users' electrical power needs. Edison's type Z direct-current dynamos, built at the Edison Machine Works in New York City, were among the earliest manufactured for commercial use. The Harding Jones Paper Company installed this dynamo, serial number 13, at its facilities in Middletown, Ohio.
