Kennedy less than a decade earlier--neared reality. Americans eagerly anticipated the Apollo 11 mission, during which astronauts would walk on the Moon. <em>Life</em> magazine produced several issues before and after the event to keep the public informed on this historic undertaking.

- National Peace Jubilee Commemorative Medal, 1869 - The National Peace Jubilee was a musical extravaganza held in Boston, Massachusetts, in June 1869 to commemorate the return of peace after the end of the Civil War. Organized by bandleader Patrick S. Gilmore, the festival featured a thousand-piece orchestra and choruses from throughout the country. Organizers built a temporary coliseum -- depicted on this medal -- to seat an audience of 30,000.

The National Peace Jubilee was a musical extravaganza held in Boston, Massachusetts, in June 1869 to commemorate the return of peace after the end of the Civil War. Organized by bandleader Patrick S. Gilmore, the festival featured a thousand-piece orchestra and choruses from throughout the country. Organizers built a temporary coliseum -- depicted on this medal -- to seat an audience of 30,000.
