This illustration shows two methods of road construction. The Telford system used a base layer of stone blocks and an upper layer of smaller interlocking stones to support the road surface. The company introduced its heavy-duty Model AC truck in 1916. The model remained in production until 1938, and Mack built more than 40,000 units. The Model AC's distinctive hood set it apart from other trucks.

Township and county road commissioners submitted reports highlighting the progress of "reward roads"--projects funded by the state. Wayne County's 1924-1925 report included these images showing a recently paved road in southeast Michigan.
