- Salem China 'Hopscotch Turquoise" Condiment Set, 1957 - Industrial designer Vicktor Schreckengost (1906-2008) began working for the Ohio-based Salem China Company in the 1930s after graduating from the Cleveland School of the Arts. Schreckengost created new and distinctive shapes and patterns for the company, including this "Hopscotch" pattern in the 1950s. The company later simplified and renamed it "North Star," a pattern that became emblematic of middle-class tastes of the 1950s and 1960s.
