The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie connected the city with Youngstown, Ohio, about 70 miles to the northwest -- and about 60 miles short of the Great Lake in the railroad's name. P&LE's Pittsburgh station, located along the Monongahela River, opened in 1898. Passenger service there ended in 1985, but the building continued to operate as a restaurant.
