- Bobby Unser with Quiltmaker Jeanetta Holder at Pocono in 1980 - Jeanetta Holder combined her loves of sewing and auto racing by creating a quilt for the winner of the Indianapolis 500 each year. She soon expanded her efforts by making quilts for winners of other major races. Holder presented a quilt to Bobby Unser following his victory in the 1980 Pocono 500.

Over the next 11 seasons, he made 98 starts and earned USAC national championships in 1971 and 1972. Leonard competed in the Indianapolis 500 nine times, finishing in third place in 1967 and 1972.

Joe Leonard won three national motorcycle racing championships from 1954 to 1957 before he moved to USAC Champ Car racing in 1964. Over the next 11 seasons, he made 98 starts and earned USAC national championships in 1971 and 1972. Leonard competed in the Indianapolis 500 nine times, finishing in third place in 1967 and 1972.
- Jimmy Caruthers in Eagle-Offy Race Car at Pocono International Raceway, June 1975 - The fifth annual Pocono 500 took place at Pocono Raceway near Blakeslee, Pennsylvania, on June 29, 1975. Gordon Johncock had the pole position in the Indy car event, having qualified at 183.281 mph, but A.J. Foyt took the checkered flag. Due to rain, the 200-lap race was called after just 170 laps had been completed.

The fifth annual Pocono 500 took place at Pocono Raceway near Blakeslee, Pennsylvania, on June 29, 1975. Gordon Johncock had the pole position in the Indy car event, having qualified at 183.281 mph, but A.J. Foyt took the checkered flag. Due to rain, the 200-lap race was called after just 170 laps had been completed.

During the 1974 Schaefer 500, three Indy-style race cars rounded the turn. In order, Jim McElreath, Al Loquasto and John Martin fought for position during the 200-lap race. In the end, Loquasto placed the highest out of the three drivers, finishing in 11th place. The Schaefer 500 was part of the 1974 USAC Championship Car season.

He earned his nautical nickname from hydroplane boat races where he also competed. Seriously injured in a crash at the 1973 Indianapolis 500, Walther overcame burns to his body and wounds to his hands and returned to race at Indy the next year.
