West replied to Lincoln, a 14-year-old car enthusiast from Michigan, who was curious about the time needed to design an automobile. Walt Disney designed the attraction for Ford Motor Company's pavilion at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. Clark and Chapman were in good spirits -- Clark had just won the Indianapolis 500 in a Ford-powered Lotus race car designed by Chapman.
