- James Price Inspecting Emery Wheels at the Motor Building, Ford Rouge Plant, September 12, 1939 - James Price joined Ford Motor Company in 1917. Price, a former tailor's assistant, rose through the ranks and in the early 1920s became the first salaried African-American employee at Ford. In the 1930s, Mr. Price oversaw purchasing of industrial diamonds and other abrasives used to grind, smooth, and polish automobile components. He retired in 1947 and opened an office supply store in Detroit.

Over the years, employees at the factory built various Ford models including the Galaxie, Falcon, Econoline, Fairlane, Torino, and Thunderbird; and Mercury models like the Comet, Cyclone, and Cougar. By the time the plant closed in 2005, workers had built close to eight million vehicles there.

Von Mach was Michigan's first licensed female pilot, earning her certificate in 1929. During World War II, Von Mach oversaw final inspection of the Pratt & Whitney engines installed in B-24 bomber airplanes at Ford's Willow Run plant. She was a charter member of the Ninety-Nines, an international organization that supported the work of women in aviation.
