It hosted trains from the Chesapeake & Ohio and predecessors, and the Baltimore & Ohio, Wabash and Pennsylvania. The depot was close to the docks of the Detroit & Cleveland steamship line as well. Service to Fort Street Union Depot ended in 1971, and the building was torn down three years later.
