- "Republican National Convention-Detroit 1980" Political Button, 1980 - The Republican Party held its 1980 National Convention to select a presidential candidate in Detroit, Michigan. Former California Governor Ronald Reagan, a conservative, had locked up the nomination in May, and the only question remaining was who he would choose for his running mate. Reagan selected George W. Bush, his Republican primary opponent and a moderate, to balance the ticket. They won.

- "Detroit Loves a Good Party" Political Button, 1980 - Detroit, Michigan's Civic Host Committee adopted the slogan "Detroit Loves a Good Party" in 1980. It coincided with the Republican National Convention held in the city in July. (This was the first time Detroit had hosted a national political convention to elect a president.) Thousands of buttons with the slogan were distributed or sold that year.
