- Enfield 1856 Pattern Sword Bayonet - Armies during the Civil War used a variety of weapons. Soldiers attached bayonets to the ends of rifles -- providing stabbing power during charges when loading a rifle quickly was impossible. Both Union and Confederate armies used this type of a model 1856 Enfield saber bayonet. This bayonet, according to the tag, was later purchased by Thomas Edison as a gift for his father.

- Cavalry Saber with Scabbard, 1861-1865 - During the Civil War, Courtney and Tennant of Charleston, South Carolina, imported equipment for the Confederate Navy, including uniform buttons, officer's swords, and naval cutlasses. They also supplied the Confederacy with imported cavalry sabers like this one. But, as the Union blockade of Southern ports became increasingly effective, Southerners found it much more difficult to import crucial equipment from overseas.

This sword belonged to Joshua Slayton of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, a 45-year-old lawyer and farmer. Slayton likely received the sword upon his commission as 1st Lieutenant of Company F, 13th Michigan Volunteer Infantry in January 1862.

Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword Used by Captain Joshua Slayton, 13th Michigan Infantry, 1862-1863
This Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword was the standard sword worn by junior officers serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. This sword belonged to Joshua Slayton of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, a 45-year-old lawyer and farmer. Slayton likely received the sword upon his commission as 1st Lieutenant of Company F, 13th Michigan Volunteer Infantry in January 1862.
- Jambiya with Scabbard, 1870-1930 - A jambiya is a curved dagger worn close to the body and used for close-at-hand defense. This Moroccan example, from the late 19th or early 20th century, was probably a tourist trade good created for Western consumption. The chasing was executed in a cursory fashion and the inscription, which contains what looks to be Arabic calligraphy, has no meaning.

This Moroccan example, from the late 19th or early 20th century, was probably a tourist trade good created for Western consumption. The chasing was executed in a cursory fashion and the inscription, which contains what looks to be Arabic calligraphy, has no meaning.
