Sieve
- Sieve, Used by Luther Burbank, circa 1910 - Luther Burbank, an American plant breeder, created more than 800 new fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other plants. Most of his experiments started with the soil. He painstakingly sifted sand and loam through screens of varying sizes to get the perfect mixture. He used this sieve, made by setting a fine screen in a metal frame, to sift soil into flats used in his greenhouse to start seeds.
