- Spearfish Sinclair Station, Spearfish, South Dakota, 1980 - In the mid-1970s, John Margolies began to assemble a visual record of America's built roadside landscape. Over the following three decades, he traveled thousands of miles to photograph the overlooked and often quickly vanishing structures that had grown out of American automobile culture and main street commerce. His photographs of hotels, motels, diners, service stations, drive-ins and attractions celebrate and capture a unique chapter of American history.

- Auto Service Sticker, "Sinclair-ize for Safety," Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, circa 1951 - A Sinclair gas station service technician affixed this sticker to a car's door jamb after recording the mileage and noting the service procedure he just completed. On the sticker is an image of a dinosaur, the Sinclair Oil Corporation's logo and mascot.

- Mack Truck Used by Sinclair Oils, circa 1920 - Founded in Brooklyn, New York, in 1900, Mack Brothers Company relocated to Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1905 and adopted the name Mack Trucks in 1922. Mack-built tank trucks like this had separate compartments for gasoline, diesel fuel, lubricants, and other oil and petroleum products. The delivery trucks transported these products from distributors to gas stations.

- Dipstick Tags, 1961-1969 - Car owners in the 1960s placed a small metal tag on the dipstick to help remind them when to change the car's oil. Vehicle operators needed to see this tag, so opening the hood and inspecting the engine was a necessity. Today, small clear plastic windshield tags and even pre-programmed instrument panel lights remind drivers of their automotive maintenance responsibility.

Car owners in the 1960s placed a small metal tag on the dipstick to help remind them when to change the car's oil. Vehicle operators needed to see this tag, so opening the hood and inspecting the engine was a necessity. Today, small clear plastic windshield tags and even pre-programmed instrument panel lights remind drivers of their automotive maintenance responsibility.
