- U.S. Postage Stamps Issued for Booker T. Washington Centennial, 1956 - The U.S. Postal Service recognized the 100th anniversary of Booker T. Washington's birth with a three-cent stamp. The first-day cancellation occurred at the post office at Booker Washington Birthplace, Virginia, just three days after Congress authorized the national monument to the renowned African-American educator. The stamp features an image of a log cabin similar to Washington's birthplace.
