- Tower of Jewels Souvenir Statuette from Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1915 - The Panama-Pacific International Exposition celebrated the 1914 completion of the Panama Canal and the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean. Nearly nineteen million people visited San Francisco, recently recovered from a devastating 1906 earthquake, during the fair in 1915. Many returned home with mementos, such as this souvenir replica of the exhibition's popular Tower of Jewels.

Tower of Jewels Souvenir Statuette from Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1915
The Panama-Pacific International Exposition celebrated the 1914 completion of the Panama Canal and the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean. Nearly nineteen million people visited San Francisco, recently recovered from a devastating 1906 earthquake, during the fair in 1915. - Statue of John Burroughs,"The Seer," circa 1925 - Sculptor C. S. Pietro created several works of John Burroughs during the 1910s. The artist traveled to the Burroughs' home in the Catskills to fashion clay models of the well-known naturalist and writer. A bronze casting of "The Seer," Pietro's most famous work, was presented to the Toledo Museum of Art in 1918 by industrialist W. E. Bock.

Sculptor C. S. Pietro created several works of John Burroughs during the 1910s. The artist traveled to the Burroughs' home in the Catskills to fashion clay models of the well-known naturalist and writer. A bronze casting of "The Seer," Pietro's most famous work, was presented to the Toledo Museum of Art in 1918 by industrialist W. E. Bock.

Sometimes there was an ulterior motive; correspondence accompanying this object reveals the donor's hope that Mr. Ford would be so impressed with his work, the woodworker might be offered a position in one of Ford's North American factories.
