Artifact Overview

The Wheel Around the Hub was an event that brought cyclists together for a two-day tour around Boston, Massachusetts. The first event took place in 1879 with about forty cyclists accompanied by a couple of horse-drawn vehicles carrying an artist and the cyclists' supplies. As time progressed, as seen in this ca. 1907 photograph, automobiles transported those not touring by bicycle.
