The Star Wars saga's success on the big screen made it inevitable that the movies' characters would spread to other media. Robots C-3PO and R2-D2 appeared in the animated television series Star Wars: Droids from 1985-1986. The Saturday-morning cartoon in turn inspired a comic book adaptation that ran for eight issues.
