The Panama-Pacific International Exposition celebrated the 1914 completion of the Panama Canal and the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean. Nearly nineteen million people visited San Francisco during the 1915 fair. Many returned home with souvenirs like this spoon--a miniature of the shovel used by President Taft in 1911 to break ground for the exhibition.
