Fan Belt, 1960-1970

01

Artifact Overview

An automobile's fan belt carries power from a crankshaft-driven pulley to the fan that helps cool the engine. Depending on the engine's design, the fan belt might run other accessories too. The belt's "V" shape improves its hold on the pulleys, reducing slippage. Historically, fan belts were made from rubberized cloth cords.
